JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a motivated applicant to help lead our projects as a Construction Foreman. The position is a “boots on the ground” position. The ideal candidate will supervise a project, lead the crews, and also act as a lead equipment operator. Main operations will include earth-moving, grading, and storm water pipe installation. The ideal candidate will have significant experience performing such tasks, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.

Location: (Seneca, South Carolina): The Construction Foreman is field-based and will work on-site at project locations. Our company takes on projects with-in approximately a 1-hour radius of our home office, which is located in Seneca, SC.

Our projects do not require travel, this is a “home each night” position.

About the Company: We are a company built on a family heritage of hard-work. Tracing our roots back multiple generations, our family has family-run businesses in the Upstate of South Carolina for over 150 years, tracing our roots back to sawmill operations originating in Longcreek, SC. The primary business focus of Thrift Development is heavy civil construction. We are licensed and qualified to work in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. Our specialty is earth moving projects including road construction, mass grading, and site-work. We self-perform many operations as a general contractor, and work with subcontractors to complete all scopes of work. We take on projects from various entities and provide a turn-key product to our clients.

Position Reporting and Support: Our Job Sites are led by a Construction Foreman. There is no site specific superintendent or site-specific project manager. Our family-oriented team consists of a General Superintendent and Head Project Manager who work directly with the Construction Foreman of each project to provide them with the support and tools necessary for the Foreman to be the site and crew leader. The Foreman will take pride in their jobsite and will run the project as a boots-on-the-ground leader. The Foreman will report to and work with the Superintendent and the Project Manager. For support to the Foreman, our company’s Vice President of Construction Operations has 50+ years of experience in grading construction, and our General Superintendent has 30+ years experience. Our Project Manager is a P.E. with 20+ years experience in the industry. This team will work with the Foreman to plan work activities and coordinate crew assignments and will offer support and advice to the Construction Foreman as needed. Our team will also provide the support necessary to ensure work activities comply with plans and specifications, and will further assist the Construction Foreman as needed.

Our crews are not task specific, so the Construction Foreman will lead his crew to complete all tasks and work activities required to build a project they can take pride in. These tasks may include items such as cut-to-fill dirt moving operations, fine grading, and storm water pipe installation. Our crews also do not travel, so the Construction Foreman will enjoy the benefit of a home-based job and will be home each evening. Saturday work is required on an as- needed to basis to make-up for weather days. We do not work on Sunday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily operations in conjunction with the Superintendent and Project Manager.

  • Lead crews to accomplish work activities to complete work activities from start to finish.

  • Serve as the lead equipment operator of the crew, operating dozers, track hoes, motor graders, etc., each with a high level of knowledge and operating ability.

    • The Foreman’s operating ability should be such that they are qualified to run equipment at the level where they can train and supervise other equipment operators.

  • Coordinate work activities with other crews, both internally and subcontractors.

  • Maintain and complete daily work reports, time sheets, and other required daily documentation.

  • Maintain jobsite security and organization of equipment and materials.

  • Implement and enforce safety policies, assuring proper PPE is worn and all tasks are performed safely.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Prior related experience in road construction, grading, earthmoving, or other similar construction areas.

  • Experienced and efficient at operating heavy construction equipment.

  • Ability to lead and supervise crew members.

  • Ability to read and understand road and grading plans and specifications.

  • Ability to communicate with and coordinate subcontractor activities.

  • Ability to communicate with, order, and organize supplies and materials, including delivery to job site.

  • Clean Driving Record which meets Insurance Required MVR Standards

Physical Requirements: The Construction Foreman position requires an individual to meet certain physical requirements to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the Construction Foreman may be required to sit, talk and/or hear. The Construction Foreman may be required to use hands to type and write. The Construction Foreman may be required to reach with hands and arms. The Construction Foreman may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The Construction Foreman may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment Requirements: The Construction Foreman must be able to work well in specific work environments. Such environments will be outdoor construction projects with exposure to ongoing construction activities and various weather conditions. The noise level exposure of the Construction Foreman may range from moderate to loud. The Construction Foreman must be comfortable working around active roadway traffic with traffic control devices in place.
